Eric Murdock

Bismarck State College

Substation Technician, Specialty Engineering Inc. (NWPPA Member)

After nearly 11 years, Eric decided it was time to leave the Army.  For the last five years, Eric was a member of the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power).  At his battalion, he sought out an online degree program and found the EPCE online education programs.  Looking at the opportunities available in the energy industry, he enrolled in the online Electric Power Technology (ELPW) program at Bismarck State College (BSC) because they were industry-specific and not just general courses.

Eric found that the online courses were convenient, but challenging.  He managed to get through because of the flexibility BSC designed in the program, which was important being in the military.  “BSC was always willing to work with me,” Eric happily points out.  “When I was redeployed, they helped me with my deadlines.”  Eric was able to continue even when deployed to Iraq during his final semester, thanks to still having internet access.  It is probably no surprise then that Eric’s advice to fellow students is to, “Try to work ahead as much as possible.  You never know what is going to happen.”

After the Army, Eric is now enjoying life’s next chapter as a substation technician at Specialty Engineering, Inc.
