How It Works

Courses are offered online, which allows students to complete the course at their own pace.

What does it take to be successful?
Online courses are a great way to further your education when you have a busy schedule.  Individuals with certain traits are usually successful in online learning:

  • Self-Directed
  • Disciplined & motivated
  • Experienced with computers, email, internet, and word processing
  • Enjoys reading & writing
  • Asks questions

Instructors teach the courses- they are not self taught

Instructors use email, chat sessions, audio, and video to lead you through the course material. Your online instructor monitors progress, provides feedback on coursework, and offers extra help. You and your instructors will be able to communicate one-on-one when needed.

You interact with fellow students

Instructors encourage threaded discussions with other students, chat sessions, and email. You may choose to share phone numbers with other students.

You take the courses at the time that works best for you

You do not need to be online at the same time as the instructor or other students. You have the flexibility to complete course work at the times that work best for you.

You still must meet the deadlines

A syllabus and schedule of assignments are always posted online. You can complete the assignments at times that are convenient for you, but you must turn them in according to the schedule.

You monitor your progress with self-checks and test

Self-checks are provided throughout the courses to help you monitor your understanding of the materials. Your instructor will also require you to take tests online. Sometimes the tests are timed. Occasionally the college will require that a proctor monitor a test.
