EPCE partnered with the Bismarck State College, National Energy Center of Excellence (NECE) to design courses especially for new hires and those interested in the energy industry.
Our introductory courses were designed by the industry, for the industry, to address energy needs. Structured to cater to your busy schedule, these non-credit programs are self-paced and offered online.

Industry Preparation Courses
Industrial Aptitude Test Preparation
- Online, non-credit
- Concentrations: Reading Comprehension, Mechanical Aptitude, Spatial Aptitude, General Mathematics
Are you facing a pre-employment exam for a job in plant operation, plant maintenance, construction, or a skilled trade? Or have you worked in the civil service or the military service, and are now thinking about an exciting career in energy?
This online, non-credit course offered by Bismarck State College is designed to help you achieve maximum results on any industrial aptitude test.

Orientation to the Electric Industry
- Online, non-credit
- Focused on: Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Deregulation
Looking to become familiar with the electrical industry? This course will familiarize you with the various sectors of the energy industry and is perfect for new-hires, nontechnical staff, members of management, and anyone interested in the electrical industry.

Industry Introduction Certificates
Industry Awareness Career Preparation Certificate
This certificate consists of the following three non-credit courses:
- Orientation to the Electrical Industry
- Renewable Energy Sources and the Smart Grid
- Industrial Aptitude Test Prep
The Industry Awareness Career Preparation certificate is geared for those with no previous exposure to a skilled trade; construction or industrial trades and/or manufacturing; do not feel prepared to enroll in college courses, and want to receive an introduction to both the electric power industry and pre-employment tests.

Once you have completed the courses required for this certificate, you will need to contact EPCE to obtain your EPCE-Sponsored certificate.
Fundamentals of Energy Certificate
This certificate consists of the following three college credit courses:
- ELPW 111 – Introduction to the Electrical Industry and Power Grid
- ENRT 103 – Electrical Industry Applied Math
- ELPW 105 – Electrical System Fundamentals
The Fundamentals of Energy certificate is geared for those with some previous exposure to a skilled trade; construction or industrial trades and/or manufacturing; feel prepared to enroll in college-level courses, and plan to continue their energy career pathway and move into positions that require special training and/or college level education.
The Fundamentals of Energy online college credit courses are fully transferable, instructor-led, and part of the AAS in Electric Power Technology degree.
